the History

here is a step by step documentation of the gas formation!

we wanted a band:
It all started when Zach Young, Luke Young, and Jonathan "Juan" McFarland all started hanging out in the summer of 1995. They all decided that it was every man's right to be in a band. They put this idea and did not really think about it too much more. Later that summer, they were at a friend's, Kevin Peter(my)son, house. Here, the three were discussing the idea that everyone should be in a band. When this was stated, Debbie Peterson, Kevin's mom, piped in that "if you guys get a band, you should be called Natural Gas, cause you all stink!" The three thought this was a good idea, and decided that they would call themselves Natural Gas.

we made a band:
The three had the name for the band, but they did not have talent. Sure, Luke was the first chair in his middle school band, and Zach was a euphonium master in the high school. But neither of them knew anything about making there own songs, or even what a note's name was. Juan, well, Juan was only in his first year of a guitar class in high school, and the teacher was learning with them. (Now Luke plays a mean Mandolin, and Juan has tightened his skills on the acoustic guitar) They needed some real musicians. They decided to give Robbie McCord a call, a local drum talent. Robbie agreed, citing that he would do anything to play. Now they really only needed a guitarist. Who else would they have called, then Chris Wright, the dude who they had watched for 3 years play all over the place and excel in music enormously. Chris agreed as well, and they decided to do only one song at the next TEAM weekend. They used the Flaming Lips, Don't Use Jelly as the backbone for the Natural Gas classic ballad to Christ: The Bean Song.

we are a band:
Since this first concert, the Gas has made several changes to it's lineup. Drummer Robbie McCord was replaced briefly with Drummer Girl Becky Cullom. Chris Wright moved on after he stole one of Luke's girlfriends, despite the fact that he was 4 years older then the girl, but that is neither here nor there. Robbie and Becky were replaced with the current drummer, Corey "Rogaine" Roden. Chris was replaced with Zach's boyhood best friend, Dale Nicholas. Dale moved on after doing a single concert for personal reasons. Dale was replaced with the current guitarist, Aaron Randolph. Along the way, Natural Gas has also acquired a few others. Casey Hinkel played the bass with the Gas for a single concert before moving on. Kasey Johnson played rhythm guitar in the Gas's last concert, and is not sure if he will be touring with the band any longer. Natural Gas picked up a keyboardist in Max Berkbigler for help in such songs as Pig Maniac. There have been talks of maybe adding the kid named Andy on bass, and the kid named Kevin on guitar, from the former RETRO MOSHING SHEEP, and now ENGAGED for there next outing, but nothing is final.
